Although Mackay is just a short drive away, Marian boasts a range of facilities, including school, hotel, store, takeaway, and service station. Due to the rapid growth of the area, more facilities will be coming online very soon. A high school and 18-hole golf course is at nearby Mirani and only a couple of minutes from Marian is the Woolworths supermarket at Walkerston.

The township of Marian in the Pioneer Valley is one of the highest growth areas in Queensland, thanks to the rapid growth and development of Nabilla Riverlink Estate. Marian plays an integral role in the history of Mackay and the Pioneer Valley. The local sugar mill is the largest in the region, processing most the Pioneer Valley-grown sugar cane. One of the region's best tourist attractions is the home of Australia's most famous opera singer, Dame Nellie Melba, who once lived at Marian. Located on elevated land beside the Pioneer River, Marian enjoys a real country feel while being only 18 minutes from the regional centre of Mackay. The area has a strong focus on water sports, having easy access to local attractions like the Teemburra Dam, Kinchant Dam, and Marian Weir, which are popular spots for all kinds of water sports.
